Here is an
amazing find !
This wonderful little set is from the late 1960's and yet it appears to be
in crisp new condition-I do not think it was ever worn! Authentic
BIBA, this set was featured in the BIBA catalog (see below). Sweet
and sexy little sundress mini is a-line with perfectly tailored bust and
razorback. Stunning on its own and even cuter when paired with the
matching coat cover-up.
Both pieces
are done in crisp clean
'spotty cotton' and are extremely well made. The catalog calls the
color 'pale turquoise with white spots'. It is a light blue with
white polka dots.
The coat is
fabulous with the same a-line cut and fitted bust. The sleeves are
dramatic, seamed halfway down to form a wide bell. I really love the
huge rick rack trim!
Both the coat
and the dress have the BIBA label and a small white size 10 tag

From the
Vintage Fashion Guild Label Resource:
"The
fashion label Biba started life in late 1963 as a mail order company
advertising ready-to-sew garments designed by Barbara Hulanicki, although
the enterprise did not have the name Biba at that point. The
garments were advertised in British daily newspapers such as the Daily
Mirror. Hulanicki’s big break came when Daily Mirror’s fashion
editor Felicity Green asked Hulanicki to design a garment for a
feature on young designers in May 1964. Not having a name for their
new enterprise Hulanicki and her husband Stephen Fitz-Simon decided upon
the name Biba, the shortened version of her sister’s name Biruta. Hulanicki
designed a pink gingham dress and no less than 4,000 orders were received.
Eventually 17,000 of the dresses were sold." Read more at: http://www.vintagefashionguild.org/content/view/92/121/
